The New Testament book of Hebrews says that the Word of God is sharper than any double-edged sword. With its God cuts to the heart of man and lays bare what lies inside…the good and the bad. With it the faithful receive saving grace and the wicked their destruction. There is no thought, no intention and no desire that remains secret.
So, why do we fight so hard, at times, against a God Who knows us so completely? Why do we think we might “get away with it” or “come out on top” if we follow our wayward desires? Our Father knows us entirely; much better than we know ourselves. Why do we struggle with obeying God’s commands and choosing what will lead us into destruction?
It is because we live in a fallen world. Also, our Heavenly Father created us with a will and the ability to choose. Of course, He longs for us to choose Him, but He never forces that choice upon us. He reaches out to us through His written Word, through His creation which surrounds us and through others whom He brings into our lives. God provides ample opportunities for us to turn and follow Him. It is up to us to respond.
There is nothing any of us have done or could do which is too big for our God. He can cut into the heart of the most hardened murderer, the slyest of thieves or the most committed of adulterers. Yes, the cuts hurt, but the words and the promises of God heal those wounds as we remain in His Word and as we choose to follow His commands. I pray that you and I will continue to choose to follow the Lord. It is the only path to eternal life.
“Heavenly Father, I thank You for the forgiveness found only in Jesus Christ. I decide in this moment to follow Your Word and Your commands. I thank You for the saving grace which is mine to receive because of the gift of Your Son, Jesus Christ. I pray that your double-edged sword cut quick into the hearts of those who have turned from you and expose those areas You know they need to turn over to You. It is in the Name of Jesus that I ask these things. Amen.”

“Writing has always been a gift to me from God. There is no better avenue for me to communicate the true depths of my inner most thoughts and feelings. I was encouraged by my family and friends to write…anything…but to just write. So, I prayed about what to write and felt a calling to write daily devotionals. God has used my gift to put on paper what His Scripture means to me; my hope is that what I write hits a chord with those who choose to read the devotionals. I often include a short prayer in the devotionals I write. These prayers are meant to encourage and perhaps challenge us to pursue God’s Presence through scripture reading, meditating on God’s Word, bible studies and fellowship with other believers.
God has been good to me and to my family. I sincerely hope something God led me to put on paper provokes a thought in you or perhaps is that “little thing” you were needing to hear. None of these writings are from me, but from God and His gentle guidance to put thought and prayer on paper.
