Many of us have tried dieting, right? One diet involves receiving a balance of points to start each new day. That seems generous. We do nothing except wake up and find we have been given a new surplus of points. Pretty neat until we use up all those fresh points as we consume food throughout the day. We can, of course, earn more points if we choose to exercise. We must work for it, though.
God’s Word tells us about something the Lord gives us freely each day. His mercies. “The faithful love of the LORD never ends! His mercies never cease. Great is his faithfulness; his mercies begin afresh each morning” (Lamentations 3:22-23 NLT). Mercy is compassion or forgiveness shown toward someone whom it is within our power to punish or harm. Mercy is given, not earned.
The amazing thing about God’s mercies is not just that they are new every morning, but that they NEVER cease. In God’s infinite wisdom He knew that His creation would mess up. He knew we would sin; sometimes daily. Our Heavenly Father provides His unceasing mercies, and we have done nothing to deserve them.
This does not mean we have a free pass to sin while assuming we will receive the Lord’s mercy. God’s Word admonishes us to repent and turn from our sins. Proverbs 28:13 says this, “People who conceal their sins will not prosper, but if they confess and turn from them, they WILL receive mercy.” (emphasis mine)
Humans will fail us. WE will fail others. I struggle to forgive and offer mercy to those who have failed me. I have also been on the receiving end of unforgiveness when I have wronged someone. So, my prayer today is that God will fill me with His Mercy. I ask our Heavenly Father to give me His eyes to see and His heart of compassion. May I be quick to forgive others and quicker to seek forgiveness.
“Lord, give me Your love and compassion for others. Holy Spirit, teach me how to be merciful toward others. I ask this in Jesus Name. Amen”.

“Writing has always been a gift to me from God. There is no better avenue for me to communicate the true depths of my inner most thoughts and feelings. I was encouraged by my family and friends to write…anything…but to just write. So, I prayed about what to write and felt a calling to write daily devotionals. God has used my gift to put on paper what His Scripture means to me; my hope is that what I write hits a chord with those who choose to read the devotionals. I often include a short prayer in the devotionals I write. These prayers are meant to encourage and perhaps challenge us to pursue God’s Presence through scripture reading, meditating on God’s Word, bible studies and fellowship with other believers.
God has been good to me and to my family. I sincerely hope something God led me to put on paper provokes a thought in you or perhaps is that “little thing” you were needing to hear. None of these writings are from me, but from God and His gentle guidance to put thought and prayer on paper.
May God truly bless you!”
